The University Around You 2018 Campaign

In Fall 2017 “The University Around You” campaign launched and hosted some fantastic events showcasing the talent, knowledge, and initiative of our tech colleagues across Penn campus. We covered presentations about collaboration tools and spacesIT security awarenessaugmented and virtual reality, and survey design and analysis. Our events reached well over 100 students and we hope to educate even more going forward! In addition to other Wharton Computing members, our partners included Penn LibrariesISC-Information SecurityPennImmersiveWharton Behavioral Lab, and Qualtrics. In Spring 2018, we’re continuing our theme of “The University Around You” to connect students with tech experts and resources in the Wharton and Penn community. Building on our success from last semester, our lineup for 2018 will cover the following topics:

  • January 17th, 2018 at 12 noon, JMHH F55 – Research and Data: From groups like WRDS to Wharton Research-IT to Penn Libraries, the University of Penn is a powerhouse for accessing datasets and research tools. Join us for presentations from several of our Penn research experts. Speaker list and registration coming soon.
  • February 21st, 2018 at 12 noon, JMHH F45 – Sims and Education GamificationWharton’s Learning Lab develops cutting edge digital learning tools – simulations, serious games, web-based exercises and interactive programs. Learn how the games are developed from conceptualization to implementation. Hear from other groups on campus involved in educational game design and implementation.   • March 21st, 2018 at 12 noon, JMHH F50 – IT and Entrepreneurship: Wharton and Penn students have created amazing IT startup companies including wearable medical devices, fitness apps, mobile apps for enhancing campus life, and environmentally conscious apps. Join us for a student panel discussion highlighting the present and future of IT entrepreneurship. Speaker list and registration coming in March.
  • April 18th, 2018 @ 12 noon, JMHH F55 – IT and Environmental Sustainability: As a prelude to Earth Day on April 22nd, we’ll bring together a group of experts from the Penn campus to present how technology is being used to conceptualize our environment to solve pressing environmental challenges and increase sustainability. We’ll also cover IT sustainability practices to become a responsible industry leader. Speaker list and registration coming in April.

About Strategic Partnerships Student Team: 

The University Around You series is brought to you by the Wharton Computing Strategic Partnerships Student Team. Our goal is to provide a clear communication channel between Wharton Computing and students. We focus on building partnerships by engaging with students year-round through surveys, focus groups, and ad hoc outreach. We analyze findings and then work with relevant service teams and individuals to ensure continual process improvement.  Alex Milne leads the Student Strategic Partnership team. He is a Wharton Computing veteran with a long list of accomplishments here and at his previous role at Harvard University. Erin Murphy is a long-time contributor to Wharton Computing, providing exhaustive research, analysis, and development work.
